TLDR Exposure to certain chemicals in food and containers may increase the risk of early breast development in young girls.
This case-control study investigated the association between exposure to endocrine disruptors (EDs) with estrogenic action and idiopathic premature thelarche (IPT) in girls aged 3 to 8. The study involved 50 cases and 48 controls, revealing significant associations between IPT and exposure to phytoestrogens in food (OR: 14.6), BPA containers exposed to temperature changes (OR: 2.6), phthalates (OR: 2.9), and parabens (OR: 2.7). The degree of exposure to these EDs also correlated with IPT development, suggesting that these substances may be risk factors for IPT.
