TLDR EGF and KGF affect wool fineness in Gansu alpine Merino sheep.
The study investigated the expression patterns of Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF) in the skin of Gansu alpine Merino sheep with varying wool fineness. Using tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry techniques, it was found that both EGF and KGF were expressed in the skin tissue, with variations in expression levels across different parts. The findings suggested that EGF and KGF were involved in hair follicle development and influenced the fineness of the wool.
