TLDR The gel form of substance Y is the most effective for treating hair loss.
The study investigated the efficacy of a new substance Y in various transdermal forms (gel, alcohol, and oil) for treating alopecia, compared to minoxidil and burdock oil, using male C57BL/6 mice. Results showed that the gel form of substance Y was the most effective, leading to a higher number of hair follicles in the growth phase than the 2% minoxidil solution, with statistically significant differences. However, substance Y did not exhibit antioxidant activity. The findings suggest that the gel form of substance Y is promising for topical alopecia therapy, with plans for further mechanism studies and patent registration.

A user with aggressive male pattern baldness found that topical melatonin significantly reduced their hair shedding to 1 or 2 hairs per day and noticed some thickening of side hair. They tried many treatments like finasteride and minoxidil with little success, but topical melatonin showed immediate results in reducing hair loss.

Low-dose oral minoxidil is a safe and effective hair loss treatment with fewer side effects than previously feared. Users often prefer it over topical minoxidil for better results, though some experience side effects like increased body hair and cardiovascular issues.
