TLDR Activated autologous platelet-rich plasma can improve healing in diabetic foot ulcers.
The review evaluated the efficacy of activated autologous platelet-rich plasma (aaPRP) in treating diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), a complication affecting 6.3% of the global population. It included 50 studies, with eight focusing on aaPRP, and highlighted the potential of growth factors like PDGF and VEGF in wound healing. While some studies showed significant improvements in healing rates and symptoms with aaPRP, others found no significant difference compared to standard treatments. The review noted aaPRP's potential benefits, such as improved wound closure and reduced oxidative stress, but emphasized the need for further research to confirm its efficacy and determine optimal usage.
