Study of Efficacy and Safety of Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Combined with Microneedling on Acne Scars

TLDR Microneedling combined with platelet-rich plasma therapy effectively improves acne scars in most cases without serious complications.
Three years ago, a study was conducted on 46 patients aged 18-25 with acne scars to assess the safety and efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy combined with microneedling. The patients underwent three consecutive sittings of the combined procedure at 4-week intervals, followed by a final assessment three months after the last sitting. The results, evaluated by two independent dermatologists, showed a good response in 34 patients (73.91%) and an overall improvement in 86.9% of cases, with no serious complications reported. The study concluded that autologous PRP combined with microneedling is an effective treatment for enhancing the clinical outcomes and overall cosmetic appearance of acne scars.
