TLDR Platycarya strobilacea extract significantly improves hair growth and follicle health.
The study evaluated the effects of Platycarya strobilacea S. et Z. extract (PSE) on hair growth in four-week-old male C57BL/6 mice, divided into three groups (n=5/group): a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) group (NC), a minoxidil group (PC), and a PSE group. Over 3 weeks, 100 μℓ of test samples were applied daily to the shaved dorsal skin of the mice. The PSE group showed significantly enhanced hair growth compared to the NC and PC groups, with the deepest hair follicle depth (843.33±84.33 μm) and the lowest number of mast cells (1.50±0.29). Additionally, the PSE group exhibited the strongest immune response in SCF staining. The findings suggested that PSE positively affected hair growth, hair follicle length, mast cell count, and immune response, warranting further research to understand its action mechanism.
