TLDR The plant extract mixture improves skin health by reducing inflammation, boosting collagen, and supporting anti-aging.
The study investigated the effects of a plant extract mixture (AHLPP) from agrimonia, houttuynia, licorice, peony, and phellodendron on human skin cells, focusing on skin barrier function, inflammation, and aging. The AHLPP mixture was found to downregulate pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL 1-β and IL 7, increase procollagen peptide synthesis, and upregulate mRNA of barrier proteins such as filaggrin and desmoplakin. It also demonstrated anti-aging effects by enhancing telomerase activity and altering gene expression related to aging, such as TERT and CDKN1B. The mixture, even when sterilized with γ-irradiation, retained its beneficial properties, suggesting its potential use in skin protection by modulating significant skin-related genes.
