TLDR Cauliflower Mushroom extract may help treat male hair loss by affecting hair growth-related genes.
The research examined the impact of Sparasis crispa (Cauliflower Mushroom) extract on dermal papilla cells, which are essential for hair growth. The extract demonstrated potent antioxidant activity and boosted cell survival by 160.2% at a 2 mg/mL concentration, with no cytotoxicity observed at 1 mg/mL. The extract significantly altered the mRNA expression of type I 5 alpha-reductase in dermal papilla cells at a 0.5 mg/ml concentration, and type II 5 alpha-reductase mRNA expression increased 1.38 times. The extract also elevated the mRNA expression of BMP6, FGF7, and CTNNB1, which are associated with hair production. The study suggests that Sparasis crispa treatment could potentially be an effective solution for male hair loss.
