The Effect of Ovine Secreted Soluble Factors on Human Dermal Papilla Cell Aggregation

    In 2016, a study was conducted to examine the effect of sheep-derived soluble factors on the aggregation of human dermal papilla cells, which are crucial for hair growth. The study found that these ovine secreted factors significantly increased the aggregation of human dermal papilla cells. When these human cells, which had lost their ability to aggregate, were mixed with ovine cells in a culture, they formed well-structured aggregates. The cells were more likely to aggregate in a medium containing 20% lamb serum compared to 10% fetal calf serum. The study concluded that these ovine secreted factors could potentially improve hair growth and could be used in hair replacement therapy, although further research is needed to confirm these findings.
