TLDR Finasteride significantly reduces fertility in male rats.
The study investigated the effects of finasteride (Prostacare) on the fertility of albino male rats. Forty-five male rats were divided into three groups: a control group and two groups receiving finasteride at 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg daily for eight weeks. Results indicated a significant decrease (p<0.05) in the weights of the body, testis, epididymis, and prostate gland in the finasteride-treated groups compared to the control. Histological examination revealed a significant reduction (p<0.05) in seminiferous tubules diameters and the number of Leydig cells, along with increased interstitial space between tubules. Additionally, necrosis was observed in the seminiferous tubules of the testis.
