TLDR Finasteride reduces fertility in male rats.
The study conducted at Basrah University investigated the effects of finasteride on the reproductive system of 36 mature male albino rats. Divided into three groups, the control group received normal saline, while the other two groups were administered finasteride at doses of 0.016 mg/kg and 0.032 mg/kg for 30 days. The results indicated that finasteride significantly decreased sperm count, sperm motility, and live sperm percentage, while increasing the percentage of dead sperm. Additionally, there was a significant reduction in reproductive hormone levels (testosterone, LH, and FSH) in the finasteride-treated groups compared to the control group. The study concluded that finasteride had adverse effects on fertility in male rats.
