TLDR Cyproterone acetate reduced hair growth in most hirsute females and made hair softer, thinner, and lighter.
In a study from 1981, the effects of cyproterone acetate (CA) on hair growth were examined in ten hirsute females over a 12-month period. The patients were administered 50 mg of CA daily in combination with 'Diane'® (containing 2 mg of CA and 0.05 mg of ethinyl oestradiol). Results showed a prompt and persistent reduction in hair growth for two patients, a less marked response in three patients, and fluctuating hair growth rates in the remaining five. Despite these fluctuations, there was an overall reduction in hair growth in nine out of ten patients, and all patients reported their hair becoming softer, thinner, and lighter in color.
