The Effect of Ceramide-Based Essence Cream for the Damaged Hair Shaft

The study investigated the protective effect of ceramide-based essence cream on damaged hair. Hair samples were divided into normal (n=4) and damaged groups (n=6), and the contents of cholesterol and free fatty acids were measured. Damaged hair had lower levels of cholesterol and linoleic acid compared to normal hair. Treatment with ceramide essence creams, particularly those with stearyl and stearyl-cholesterol, increased cholesterol content and improved the cuticle layer of damaged hair, as observed through scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that ceramide-based essence cream effectively improved the condition of damaged hair.
