TLDR Long-term use of dutasteride can cause permanent erectile dysfunction in rats.
The study demonstrated that the duration of 5-alpha reductase inhibitor therapy, specifically with dutasteride, significantly affected the recovery from erectile dysfunction (ED) in rats. It was found that administering dutasteride for more than 8 weeks could lead to irreversible ED, even after the medication was discontinued. This suggested that prolonged use of such medication had lasting adverse effects on erectile function in the animal model.
