TLDR Early-onset male baldness is significantly linked to metabolic syndrome, suggesting those with early baldness should consider preventive treatment to reduce risk.
The study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 case-control studies to investigate the relationship between early-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic syndrome (MetS). The most common bias found in the evaluated articles was participant selection bias. The systematic review found a significant association between early-onset AGA and MetS in 10 out of 13 articles (76.9%). The meta-analysis revealed that early-onset male AGA was associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome (OR: 3.73, 95% CI:2.49 –5.61). The study concluded that early-onset male AGA is significantly associated with MetS, suggesting that patients with early-onset male AGA should consider preventive treatment to reduce the risk of MetS and associated complications.
