TLDR Different ethnic groups have unique hair growth patterns, with African hair growing slower and less dense, Asian hair growing fast but sparse, and Caucasian hair being densest; men are more likely to experience hair loss than women.
The study, which included 511 healthy volunteers from African, Asian, and Caucasian backgrounds, found significant differences in hair growth characteristics across these ethnic groups. African participants had low hair growth and density, Asians had a high growth rate but low density, and Caucasians had high hair density. There was also considerable variability within each group. Additionally, alopecia was more common in men than women across all groups, with Asian men having the lowest and Caucasian men the highest prevalence. The research highlighted the need for more detailed studies to understand the diversity within each ethnic category.
