TLDR Early skin checks are crucial for managing PCOS symptoms.
This study investigated the frequency of cutaneous manifestations in 219 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at a tertiary care center. The most common skin-related symptoms were hirsutism (93.26%), androgenic alopecia (91.80%), seborrhea (89.40%), and acne (85.60%). Acanthosis nigricans and skin tags were also observed in 56.30% and 33.20% of participants, respectively. The study found that obesity significantly increased the prevalence of hirsutism, with obese participants showing higher rates compared to non-obese participants (82.5% vs. 39.7%, p<0.0001). The findings highlight the importance of early dermatological assessment for timely diagnosis and management of PCOS.
