Croton tiglium Linn., known for its potent purgative, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, is a medicinal shrub with a complex phytochemical profile, including diterpenoids, alkaloids, and phenolic compounds. Despite its toxicity, particularly from phorbol ester-rich seeds, it shows potential in various therapeutic applications such as anticancer, antiviral, and neuroprotective effects. Recent studies suggest its potential in promoting hair growth through PKC-mediated signaling, improved microcirculation, and antioxidative mechanisms. However, its toxicity necessitates rigorous detoxification and standardized formulation for safe clinical use. This review examines the dual therapeutic-toxic nature of C. tiglium and its prospects in hair-growth formulations.
