Croton tiglium Linn., known for its medicinal properties in traditional medicine, contains bioactive compounds like tigliane diterpenoids that offer therapeutic benefits such as anticancer, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effects. Recent studies suggest its potential in promoting hair growth through mechanisms involving PKC-mediated signaling and antioxidative actions. However, its toxicity, particularly from phorbol ester-rich seeds, presents challenges for safe use, requiring detoxification and standardized formulations. This review examines the plant's dual therapeutic-toxic nature and its prospects as a candidate for hair-growth treatments.
