The Effect of Cotinus Coggygria L. Ethanol Extract in the Treatment of Burn Wounds

The study evaluated the effects of Cotinus coggygria ethanol extract on burn wounds using Wistar albino rats. The extract was applied topically as a 5% cream immediately after inducing burns on 30% of the rats' body surface. Results showed that the treatment reduced serum cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α, and normalized levels of MPO activity, PGE2, and 8-OHdG, which were elevated due to burn damage. Hydroxyproline levels, which decreased due to burns, were restored with treatment. Histological analysis revealed complete epithelialization and increased collagenation in treated animals. The findings suggested that C. coggygria could be a potential alternative treatment for burn-induced skin damage and wounds.
