Treatment of Contact Burn Injury With Hypericum Perforatum: An Experimental Study

The study investigated the effects of Hypericum perforatum methanol extract-containing gel on burn wound healing using 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats were divided into groups, with one group receiving no treatment, and others treated with saline, silver sulphadiazine cream, Hypericum perforatum gel, or a placebo gel. Histopathological analyses showed that the Hypericum perforatum gel reduced collagen discoloration, vascular damage, and damage to hair follicles and sebaceous glands, while preserving the total number of hair follicles, number of vessels, and epidermal thickness compared to silver sulphadiazine cream. The study concluded that Hypericum perforatum gel had positive effects on experimental burns and could be beneficial for acute burn wounds.
