Hydrocolloid Use in the Treatment of Thermal Injury in a Dog

    TLDR Hydrocolloid dressings significantly improved healing of a dog's third-degree burn.
    This case report described the treatment of a third-degree burn wound in a 2-year-old German Spitz dog using hydrocolloid dressing. The dog sustained the burn during a microneedling session for alopecia "X." Initial treatment involved surgical debridement and daily dressings with crystal sugar and chlorhexidine ointment. After five days, a hydrocolloid plate was applied, which significantly improved wound healing. By the 15th day, the wound had reduced considerably, and by the 27th day, it was nearly healed. The treatment concluded after 42 days with noticeable hair growth and minimal scar visibility. The study suggested that hydrocolloid dressings could enhance healing by promoting keratinocyte and cell proliferation, proving more effective than conventional treatments.
