TLDR The study found a significant link between the renin-angiotensin system and insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.
The study examined the relationship between the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and insulin resistance (IR) in 31 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and compared them to 36 control subjects. It found that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity and angiotensin II (AngII) levels were significantly higher in the PCOS group, which also had higher insulin resistance and fasting insulin levels. A positive correlation between ACE activity and IR was identified in the PCOS group, although plasma renin activity (PRA) showed no significant difference between the two groups. The results indicate a significant link between ACE activity and IR in PCOS patients, suggesting that ACE could be a potential diagnostic marker for PCOS and that the condition may be associated with RAS components. The study was conducted with support from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Avicenna Research Center.
