TLDR The hydrogel dressing improves wound healing, offers long-lasting antibacterial effects, and enhances patient comfort.
The study introduces a composite hydrogel dressing, SA-BBR@SFMP-CGF, which integrates berberine-loaded silk fibroin microspheres and Calotropis gigantea fibers within a sodium alginate matrix. This dressing offers sustained drug release and enhanced mechanical properties, closely mimicking human skin. It demonstrates prolonged antibacterial efficacy, particularly against Staphylococcus aureus, and promotes wound healing through neovascularization, follicular proliferation, and collagen deposition. Tested on 12 male SD rats, the hydrogel showed superior wound healing, making it suitable for dynamic wound environments and high-mobility areas, while reducing replacement frequency and improving patient comfort.
