TLDR All skin diseases might start in hair follicles.
The study conducted at Baghdad Teaching Hospital involved 60 patients with follicular dermatoses, revealing that all skin diseases might originate in hair follicles before spreading to the epidermis. Histopathological evaluations of biopsies from 40 patients showed perifollicular lymphocytes, follicular invasion, degeneration, and other changes, supporting the hypothesis that hair follicles are the primary target in the etiopathogenesis of skin disorders. The study suggested that the anatomical and immunological characteristics of hair follicles make them susceptible to early pathological processes, potentially leading to broader skin involvement.
