Lichen Planopilaris Is a Common Scarring Alopecia Among Iraqi Population

    TLDR Lichen planopilaris is a common cause of scarring hair loss in Iraq.
    This study, conducted at Baghdad Teaching Hospital from 2010 to 2012, examined 67 patients to evaluate lichen planopilaris, a common cause of scarring alopecia in the Iraqi population. The study found that the disease typically began at an average age of 36.7 years and lasted for an average of 4.4 years, with a male to female ratio of 1.4:1. Characteristic features included pigmented scarring alopecia with hyperkeratotic follicular papules, primarily affecting the fronto-vertical and parietal scalp. These distinct clinical features helped differentiate lichen planopilaris from other scalp conditions like discoid lupus erythematosus.
