TLDR Tongue fern contains important compounds like polyphenols and flavonoids, best extracted with 80% methanol at 60°C.
The study investigates the chemical components and optimal extraction conditions of polyphenol and flavonoid compounds from the tongue fern (Pyrrosia lingua), a herb used in traditional medicine for treating conditions like chronic bronchitis and hair loss. The research identified the presence of important natural compounds such as polyphenol, flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, and steroid, but not saponins. The optimal extraction conditions were found to be using 80% methanol as the solvent, with a material-to-solvent ratio of 1:10 (g/ml), an extraction time of 120 minutes, and a temperature of 60 °C.
