TLDR Camellia oleifera leaves have compounds beneficial for cosmetics and medicine.
The study on Camellia oleifera C. Abel leaves highlights their potential for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications due to their rich bioactive properties. The 50% ethanolic extract of the leaves demonstrated high polyphenol and flavonoid contents, with significant antioxidant activity. Notably, flavonoid compound 1 exhibited exceptional antioxidant activity, surpassing L-ascorbic acid, while compound 9 showed potent proliferative effects on skin cells, indicating potential for skin regeneration. However, some compounds were cytotoxic, suggesting safety concerns. Overall, the leaves show promise for anti-aging and dermatological uses, though further research is needed to ensure safe application.
