TLDR High doses of minoxidil can harm marmoset hearts and kidneys, possibly affecting humans similarly.
The study investigated the cardiovascular toxicity of minoxidil in marmosets. The results showed that high doses of minoxidil caused myocardial necrosis, coronary arteriopathy, and degeneration of renal tubules. The study suggests that minoxidil can have cardiovascular toxicity in marmosets and may have similar effects in humans. The study also found that marmosets are less sensitive than dogs to the cardiotoxicity of minoxidil. Females appear to be slightly more sensitive than males to the adverse effects of minoxidil. The study concluded that echocardiography is a useful method for assessing the effects of minoxidil on heart function.
