TLDR A new pomegranate extract lowers blood pressure and has health benefits.
The study investigates the cardiovascular benefits of a novel pomegranate byproduct extract (PPE) obtained through hydrodynamic cavitation. In hypertensive rats, PPE significantly reduced systolic blood pressure, with effects comparable to the antihypertensive drug Captopril. The extract also demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects, though it did not significantly impact cardiac hypertrophy. PPE's high water solubility and bio-accessibility, along with its sustainable production, highlight its potential as a natural antihypertensive agent and its value in nutraceutical applications. Further research is needed to fully understand the extract's properties and contributions.
