TLDR Cannabinoids like CBD may help treat skin diseases by reducing inflammation and infections.
Cannabinoids, particularly CBD and minor cannabinoids like CBG, CBC, THCV, and CBDV, show potential therapeutic benefits for skin diseases due to their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, sebostatic, and antiproliferative effects. They may alleviate symptoms such as inflammation, pain, pruritus, and infections in dermatologic disorders, with topical and transdermal applications offering targeted delivery and safety. CBD has shown efficacy in acne, psoriasis, and wound healing, though results for alopecia areata are inconsistent. New delivery systems like CBG-based emulgels and CBD patches could enhance outcomes. Despite promising early results, large-scale trials are needed to confirm optimal use and long-term safety in dermatology.
