TLDR Cow blood vessel cell secretions helped heal rat burn wounds and may treat burns and hair loss.
The study assessed the impact of bovine umbilical vein endothelial cell (BUVEC) secretome on healing second-degree burn wounds in rats. The 48 rats were divided into four groups, receiving different concentrations of BUVEC-conditioned medium (CM) cream or povidone-iodine as a control. The BUVEC-CM was applied twice daily for 29 days, and the 15% BUVEC-CM group exhibited significant improvements in wound closure, epithelial repair, fibroblast and collagen increase, and blood vessel formation. The BUVEC secretome was found to promote fibroblast regeneration, collagen formation, re-epithelialization, and hair follicle regeneration, suggesting its potential as a treatment for burns and possibly alopecia. The study highlights the presence of growth factors like VEGF and bFGF in the BUVEC-CM, which are key to the observed wound healing and tissue regeneration effects.
