TLDR Snail secretion-loaded dressings can improve skin regeneration and wound healing.
The study developed chitosan-based bilayer wound dressings incorporating Helix aspersa snail secretion extracts to enhance skin tissue regeneration. The dressings, consisting of a nanofiber layer and a sponge layer, showed improved mechanical properties, biodegradability, and bioactivity, promoting fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferation. They exhibited slight antimicrobial effects against S. epidermidis and E. coli. The snail secretions enhanced the Young's modulus and promoted glycosaminoglycan and collagen synthesis without cytotoxic effects. These findings suggest the potential of these dressings for wound healing applications, although further research is needed to fully explore their capabilities.
