TLDR Bimatoprost eye drops make rabbit eyelashes longer, thicker, and darker, and increase the number of lashes without causing inflammation.
The study on 15 male rabbits over 4 weeks demonstrated that bimatoprost significantly increased eyelash length and density, with treated eyes showing an average length of 11.60±0.46 mm compared to 9.75±0.33 mm in control eyes. Electron microscopy revealed structural changes such as a thicker epidermis, more hair shafts per follicle, and increased pigmentation, all without inflammation. These findings suggested that bimatoprost could strengthen eyelashes and potentially prevent eyelash loss during chemotherapy by enhancing follicular activity and promoting new hair cycles.
