TLDR Using the eye pressure medication latanoprost can cause excessive hair growth and darker eyelashes on the treated eye.
In a study conducted 25 years ago, 43 glaucoma patients were treated with unilateral topical latanoprost, a medication for eye pressure. The study found that the treated eyes developed hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth) and increased pigmentation in the eyelashes and adjacent hair. Differences between the treated and non-treated eyes included an increase in the number, length, thickness, curvature, and pigmentation of the hair. The study concluded that patients should be informed about this side effect.
