TLDR Bidens pilosa L. extract effectively treats androgen deficiency dry eye in rats.
The study investigated the effects of Bidens pilosa L. (Bp) extract on androgen deficiency dry eye in rats. Twenty-four rats were divided into four groups, with dry eye induced in two groups using finasteride. The Bp treatment group showed significant improvements in tear quantity, tear film stability, and reduced inflammation compared to the finasteride-only group. The study found that Bp extract effectively treated dry eye by maintaining lacrimal gland structure and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β and TNF-α. This suggested that Bp extract could be a potential treatment for androgen deficiency dry eye.
