Beta Human Papillomavirus and Merkel Cell Polyomavirus in Skin Neoplasms

Qun Lv, Yun Ye, Liming Li, Fengjuan Li, Yi‐Lin Wu, Mingjun Jiang
TLDR Beta-HPV and MCPyV are linked to certain skin cancers, with ongoing research and vaccine development.
The document reviewed the roles of beta human papillomavirus (HPV) and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) in skin neoplasms, focusing on nonmelanoma squamous carcinoma and Merkel cell carcinoma. Beta-HPVs, particularly types 5, 8, and 38, were implicated in skin carcinogenesis, especially in immunocompromised individuals, through mechanisms like the "hit-and-run" hypothesis. MCPyV was associated with Merkel cell carcinoma, requiring continuous expression of viral antigens for tumor maintenance. The study emphasized the need for further research into the molecular mechanisms and interactions of these viruses in skin cancer development and highlighted the potential for new therapies targeting viral oncogenic proteins. Vaccines for beta-HPV and MCPyV were still under development.

The mechanism of Androgenic Alopecia and practical applications of treatments like Minoxidil, Finasteride, RU58841, dermarolling, scalp massages, anti-fungals, progesterone, estrogen, PPAR-γ activators, reducing oxidative stress, and scalp exercises. It explains why DHT is important in AA and how other factors might be involved such as hypoxia, increased DKK-1 expression, morphological changes to the scalp, skull growth during childhood/puberty, and blood flow.

Finasteride and oral minoxidil effectively maintain a youthful appearance and full head of hair, despite genetic predispositions to balding. The discussion also considers the impact of DHT blockers on masculinity and aging, with lifestyle choices like sunscreen use and a vegetarian diet mentioned.
