TLDR A new treatment using skin and hair cells may help heal stubborn leg ulcers effectively and safely.
The study explored the use of autologous smashed follicular dermal grafts combined with epidermal cell suspension as a novel treatment for chronic nonhealing leg ulcers. This approach aimed to enhance wound healing by utilizing the regenerative potential of epithelial keratinocytes and stem cells from the hair follicle bulge region, alongside the supportive role of dermal collagen and glycosaminoglycans. The technique was proposed as a potentially effective, safe, and affordable option to address the therapeutic challenges and patient morbidity associated with chronic leg ulcers.
