TLDR A new treatment using skin and hair cells may help heal stubborn leg ulcers effectively and safely.
The study explored a novel technique combining autologous smashed follicular dermal grafts with epidermal cell suspension (ECS) to treat chronic nonhealing leg ulcers in 12 patients. This method utilized follicular stem cells, epidermal keratinocytes, and dermal collagen to promote wound healing. Results showed that 41.6% of ulcers healed by 4 weeks, and all ulcers healed completely by 8 weeks, with significant improvements in ulcer area and volume. The technique was found to be effective, simple, and cost-effective, with minimal scarring and no adverse effects, offering a promising treatment for chronic leg ulcers.
