TLDR Pilomatricomas should be considered to avoid misdiagnosis in children with unusual skin tumors.
Pilomatricomas are rare, benign tumors of the hair follicle that are frequently misdiagnosed. This article presents the case of a 4-year-old boy with a persistent draining tumor on his neck, initially misdiagnosed as scrofuloderma. A biopsy later confirmed it as pilomatricoma, and it was successfully treated with elliptical excision. The case highlights the importance of including pilomatricoma in differential diagnoses to avoid misdiagnosis.
