Are Janus Kinase (JAK) Inhibitors Beneficial in the Treatment of Androgenic Alopecia?

Fiore Casale, Katerina Yale, Natasha Atanaskova Mesinkovska
TLDR JAK inhibitors do not improve hair regrowth in androgenic alopecia but may prevent further hair loss.
The study investigated the effects of Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) on androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 18 men treated for various inflammatory skin conditions. Over an average treatment duration of 66 weeks, no improvement in AGA was observed, although hair loss did not worsen. This suggests that while JAKi may not stimulate hair regrowth in AGA, they could potentially protect against further hair loss. The study's limitations include a small sample size and lack of histologic analysis. Further long-term studies are needed to fully understand the role of JAKi in treating different types of alopecia.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

User Tricky9555 tried various hair loss treatments for 8 months with no visible results. Others suggested considering a hair transplant, checking thyroid levels, and being patient for up to 24 months for potential results.
