TLDR Bacopa monnieri extract can significantly inhibit cell division.
This study investigated the antimitotic activity of Bacopa monnieri extract using the Allium cepa model. The hydroalcoholic extract of Bacopa monnieri, known for its health benefits including hair growth promotion, was analyzed for its phytochemical constituents, revealing the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, sterols, saponins, proteins, and glycosides. The extract's effect on the mitotic index and mitotic inhibition was compared to water and methotrexate, a standard antimitotic drug. The results showed that Bacopa monnieri extract had significant antimitotic effects, suggesting its potential as an antimitotic agent.
