TLDR Tridax procumbens extracts can harm cell division and increase cell death in onion roots.
The study investigated the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of ethanolic, aqueous, and hydroethanolic extracts of Tridax procumbens on Allium cepa seedlings. The seedlings were exposed to the extracts for 48 hours, after which their roots were analyzed. The results indicated that the extracts reduced the mitotic index and increased the death rate of cells, suggesting that T. procumbens extracts had an inhibitory effect on mitosis and acted as mutagens on cell division in the root meristematic cells of A. cepa.
