TLDR A 70% black ear mushroom extract hair tonic effectively stops M. furfur growth.
This study investigates the antifungal activity of a hair tonic containing black ear mushroom (Auricularia polytricha) extract against the growth of Malassezia furfur. Conducted as a quantitative experiment with a Completely Randomized Design, the study tested six treatments, including various concentrations of the mushroom extract (10%, 30%, 50%, and 70%). The results, analyzed using ANOVA and DNMRT tests, revealed that the 70% concentration of the mushroom extract exhibited significantly strong antifungal activity compared to other treatments. The study concludes that the black ear mushroom extract hair tonic effectively inhibits M. furfur growth, with the 70% concentration being the most effective.
