Test of Hair Tonic Activity Combining Bitter Melon Leaf Extract (Momordica charantia) and Carrot Extract (Daucus carota L.) on Male New Zealand White Rabbits
TLDR A 3% hair tonic with bitter melon leaf and carrot extracts boosts hair growth effectively.
The study tested the hair growth effects of a hair tonic made from a combination of bitter melon leaf and carrot extracts on 3-month-old New Zealand white male rabbits. The combination of extracts in a 3:1 ratio of bitter melon leaf to carrot showed the best results, with an average hair growth of 5.23 mm per week and a weight of 53.44 mg. Further testing of hair tonic concentrations revealed that a 3% concentration was most effective, resulting in an average hair growth of 11.56 mm and a weight of 51.16 mg. The hair tonic was found to be brown, aromatic, clear, homogeneous, with a specific gravity of 0.9419, and did not cause irritation.
