TLDR Fragrant pandan leaf extract can inhibit dandruff-causing fungus, especially at higher concentrations.
The study investigated the antifungal activity of ethanol extract from fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) on the growth of Pityrosporum ovale, a fungus causing dandruff. Using the disc diffusion method on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar media, the study tested various concentrations (70%, 60%, 50%, and 40%) of the extract. Results showed that higher concentrations of the extract significantly inhibited fungal growth, with the 70% concentration producing an inhibition zone of 16.83 mm. However, Ketoconazole 2% was more effective, producing a 38.50 mm inhibition zone. The study concluded that fragrant pandan leaf extract could inhibit Pityrosporum ovale growth, with effectiveness increasing at higher concentrations.
