Test of the Effectiveness of Kepok Banana Peel Extract Serum on Hair Growth in Guinea Pigs

    Fenny Theresia Sihombing
TLDR Kepok banana peel extract serum at 30% concentration effectively promotes hair growth.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of Kepok banana peel extract serum on hair growth in guinea pigs. Conducted with five treatment groups, each consisting of five guinea pigs, the study compared different concentrations of the extract (20%, 30%, 40%) against a negative control and a positive control (5% minoxidil®) over four weeks. The 30% concentration of Kepok banana peel extract serum showed the best results, with an average hair growth of 0.17814 ± 0.084711 g, which was close to the effectiveness of 5% minoxidil® (0.19124 ± 0.050439 g). Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference between the negative control and the 30% treatment group (p = 0.003 in the third week), suggesting that the 30% concentration has potential as an effective alternative for hair care.
