TLDR Gibbons at Tegal Alur Animal Rescue Center need better feed management to improve their health and weight.
The study on the feeding management and nutritional status of gibbons at Tegal Alur Animal Rescue Center in Jakarta involved 6 individual gibbons and was conducted from March to July 2020. The research found that the feeding schedule and types of food provided (9 fruits, 2 vegetables, and 1 type of leaf) were appropriate for the gibbons' natural diet. However, the gibbons' body weights were lower compared to those in their natural habitat. Morphological observations indicated healthy teeth and eyes, but some gibbons experienced hair loss and depigmentation. The study highlights the importance of tailored feed management to support the health and well-being of gibbons in captivity.
