TLDR There's no significant link between hair loss from male pattern baldness and early heart disease.
The 2017 study "Androgenic Alopecia and Subclinical Atherosclerosis: Is Any Relationship?" involved 94 participants, 47 with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and 47 controls. The researchers measured the carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), a marker of atherosclerosis, in both groups. The results showed no significant difference in IMT between the AGA group and the control group. However, within the AGA group, those with vertex alopecia had a significantly higher IMT than those with frontal alopecia. Despite this, the difference in IMT between those with vertex alopecia and the controls was not significant. The study concluded that there was no significant increase in IMT in individuals with AGA compared to the controls.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Finasteride is effective in promoting hair growth and reversing hair miniaturization in men with androgenetic alopecia, with improvements seen in various studies over different durations. Some users report initial side effects like ball ache, which often resolve as the body adjusts.
