Study on Improvement of Androgenetic Alopecia with Litchi Chinensis Twigs and Leaves
TLDR Litchi twigs and leaves may help treat hair loss and reduce agricultural waste.
This study investigates the potential of litchi twigs and leaves in promoting hair growth for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) by utilizing them as byproducts to reduce agricultural waste. The research determined the chemical composition and active constituents of litchi twigs (LCT) and leaves (LCL), using human hair follicle dermal papilla cells and animal models to assess their effects on dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-induced AGA. Results showed that litchi twigs water extract (LCTW) and ethanol extract (LCTE) could restore DHT-induced damage, with LCTW increasing the expression of WNT10b, β-catenin, Lef1, and VEGF, while decreasing DKK1, IL-6, and AR expressions. LCTE was most effective at low doses. Both extracts showed no inhibitory effects on 5α-reductase. The study concludes that LCTW and LCTE have protective effects against DHT-induced damage, suggesting their potential in AGA treatment and reducing agricultural waste.
