TLDR Androgen receptor differences may contribute to hair loss in AGA patients.
The study aimed to investigate androgen receptor (AR) expression in various scalp regions of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients compared to non-alopecia individuals. Specimens were collected from the top and occipital scalp of 26 AGA patients and the top scalp of 10 non-alopecia individuals. The AR expressions in the epidermis, hair follicle, sebaceous gland, and sudoriferous gland were analyzed using immunohistochemistry. The results indicated differences in AR expression between AGA patients and non-alopecia individuals, suggesting a potential role of AR in the pathogenesis of AGA.
